چکیده

We compared methods of determination of 17α-ethinyloestradiol (EE2) in surface water in Kielce, Poland. EE2 plays a role as a contraception agent and it is commonly used as an active agent in contraception pills. During studies three methods of EE2 determination were checked: TLC, HPLC, and ELISA assay. Samples of contaminated water were taken from eight points on four rivers crossing Kielce city, tap water, and sludge in a sewage treatment plant (STP). Assays revealed that EE2 is present in river water in amounts of 3.2 ng/L to 6.29 ng/L. The EE2 removal process in STP is ineffective, removings only 1.3%. EE2 was not detected in Kielce’s tap water. No correlation between fecal microbial contamination and EDS presence was determined.

Adsorption Behaviors of 17α-Ethinylestradiol in Sediment-Water System in Northern Taihu Lake, China

Adsorption behavior of 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) in northern Taihu Lake sediment was analyzed by using batch equilibrium experiment. Freundlich isotherm could describe the adsorption thermodynamic behavior of EE2 in sediment. Sediment organic matter (SOM) contents had important impacts on the adsorption capacity for EE2. The pH values also influenced the adsorption capacity for EE2. Increase o...

Removal of ecotoxicity of 17α-ethinylestradiol using TAML/peroxide water treatment

17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), a synthetic oestrogen in oral contraceptives, is one of many pharmaceuticals found in inland waterways worldwide as a result of human consumption and excretion into wastewater treatment systems. At low parts per trillion (ppt), EE2 induces feminisation of male fish, diminishing reproductive success and causing fish population collapse. Intended water quality standard...

Developmental exposure of zebrafish (Danio rerio) to 17α-ethinylestradiol affects non-reproductive behavior and fertility as adults, and increases anxiety in unexposed progeny

Exposure to estrogenic endocrine disruptors (EDCs) during development affects fertility, reproductive and non-reproductive behavior in mammals and fish. These effects can also be transferred to coming generations. In fish, the effects of developmental EDC exposure on non-reproductive behavior are less well studied. Here, we analyze the effects of 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) on anxiety, shoaling ...

Degradation of EE2 by Different Consortium of Enriched Nitrifying Activated Sludge

17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) is a recalcitrant micropollutant which is found in small amounts in municipal wastewater. But these small amounts still adversely affect for the reproductive function of aquatic organisms. Evidence in the past suggested that full-scale WWTPs equipped with nitrification process enhanced the removal of EE2 in the municipal wastewater. EE2 has been proven to be able to b...
